Registered Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Coppa is trained as a Clinical Psychologist, with a strong background in Neuroscience. She completed a six year Ph.D. Doctoral degree at McMaster University, after her previous Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Psychology and Behavioural Neuroscience. Dr. Coppa has also been Clinical Lecturer and Researcher at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), University of Toronto, Wilfrid Laurier University, Ryerson University, and McMaster University.
Dr. Coppa assesses and treats children, adolescents and adults according to their individual needs, and works collaboratively with other Regulated Health Care Professionals. She conducts psycho-educational, psycho-vocational, cognitive, psycho-social-emotional, personality and motor vehicle accident (MVA) assessments. Dr. Coppa provides consultation, psycho-education and treatment for anxiety, depression, post-traumatic and life stress, neurodevelopmental issues and obsessive-compulsive problems. She also provides service to veterans, military personnel and first responders.
Dr. Coppa’s extensive training in clinical practice and neuroscience allows her to provide combined approaches and therapies in assisting her clients. The psychotherapy she provides includes Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Insight-Oriented Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Dialectical Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). These are used to address many problems. The neurotherapy she provides includes Neurofeedback and Biofeedback (measuring brain waves, heart rate and breathing rate to teach clients how to self-regulate brain and body function). Neurotherapy is used for anxiety, PTSD, depression, obsessive-compulsive behaviours, and ADHD. When working with children, CBT strategies and Play Therapy techniques are provided in combination with guidance and education work with parents.
